Good Flags

Banner or beach, dual purpose!

I hadn’t got around to posting about this, but some time ago I wanted a new banner to take to the weekly peace demos I attended. So I decided to design one incorporating my favourite twelve flags, all of which represent resisting colonial or Western oppression and injustice.

For the base material I chose a high quality towel. Easy to roll up and transport; a convenient size for one or two people to hold up; and if it’s no longer needed as a banner, it moves on to its next life as a normal bath towel!

See if you can recognise all the flags; bonus points if you know why each was included. I’ll put the answers to the first bit further down.

The flags are (left to right, row by row):

• Scotland; Wales; Ireland; Celtic Pagans

• Palestine; South Africa; Ukraine; Pride

• Aboriginal Australians; Maori (Tino Rangatiratanga); Native Americans (one of the possible flags); Mauritius
